Bloomberg: Solar PV Much More Competitive Than Many Think

According to a new study by Bloomberg New Energy Finance, solar PV prices have dropped so fast that many people still have to catch up. Many people still think that the price of PV is prohibitive whereas in fact solar panel prices have dropped by about 75% in the last three years.

Countries such as Germany, Denmark, Italy, Spain and parts of Australia have already reached socket parity, defined here as the point where a household can make 5% or more return on investment in a PV system just by using the energy generated to replace household energy consumption, while countries like Japan, France, Brazil or Turkey are expected to reach it by 2015.

In related news, there are plans to build a 400 MW PV plant in Spain without any subsidies.
