UK Replaces Germany as Climate Champion

It’s probably just me, but I somehow completely missed how the UK has overtaken Germany in terms of emission reductions. According to the latest figures from the European Environment Agency, the UK’s emissions in 2010 were 24.7% below 1990 levels, as compared to Germany’s -23.1%. The UK’s Kyoto target is to reduce is emissions by 12.5% below 1990 levels, so the country is overachieving its target massively.

The UK’s legally-binding target of reducing emissions by 50% by 2025 also compares favourably to Germany’s target of reducing emissions by 40% by 2020.
